Fort George Cay offers one of the most layered and interesting experiences of any cay in the chain — beautiful beaches on both sides of the island, clear turquoise water, and submerged cannons just offshore where a Loyalist gun battery once stood in the early 1800s. The underwater cannon site is one of the most distinctive and historically resonant snorkelling experiences available in the Caicos Cays, combining Caribbean history with a genuinely beautiful marine setting.
Why Go — For beautiful beaches on both sides of a small limestone island, the extraordinary and historically significant underwater cannon site of a Loyalist-era gun battery, and one of the most complete and interesting cay experiences available from Providenciales.
Best For — Snorkellers · History enthusiasts · Boat charter guests · Photographers · Anyone who wants more from a cay stop than just a beach
Getting There — Located in the Caicos Cays northeast of Pine Cay, approximately 30–40 minutes by boat from Leeward, Providenciales. Included on some boat charter itineraries; also reachable on private charter.
Insider Tip — The cannon site is in shallow, clear water and requires only basic snorkel skills to explore — the combination of the historical context and the underwater setting makes it one of the more memorable snorkel sites in the entire country. The beach on the northern side of the island is particularly beautiful and often completely empty.
